To have a heart like David...

1 Samuel 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of the oil and anointed him in the mist of his brothers; in the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward...

1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine you have come to me with a sword with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of host the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.

Have you ever found your self in a place like David?

Anointed...    But....

David’s own father thought less of him than his brothers...

His siblings mocked and made fun of him...

The very leader he looked up to became jealous and was envious of him and wanted to take his life...

The wife he loved was embarrassed of him and didn’t understand the relationship he had with the Lord...

His army or (acquaintances) turned on him...

The Bible says even his friends, the men he broke bread with even turned on him as well...

Not only that....

His own son sought his life to take his throne to become king...

And yet David encouraged himself in the Lord

You can read all through Psalms his praises with Thanksgiving..

Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name sake yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for you are with me, Your rod and Your staff they comfort me, You  prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies You anoint my head with oil my cup runneth over surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever

Like David I found myself facing the giants of deep hurt and despair with the betrayal of dear loved ones...

But here’s what I’ve learned...

It is to have a heart like David...

So when we face these things, we can face them with a heart after God, with praise and thanksgiving!! knowing justice will be served on our behalf, we are to only be still and see the salvation of the Lord.

He’s a loving and mercifully righteous Father! Knowing this, none of our pain is wasted He knows every tear, every hurt and every betrayal...

Jesus knows the tactics of the enemy and what he meant for our harm God turns around for our good.

David says it like this “it is good that I was afflicted that I may learn Your statutes”

The Lord promises to never leave us nor for sake us!

And with that...we can praise the Lord for His mercy endures forever.... Amen
